ODORS

When attempting to eliminate odors in your carpeting, follow these general guidelines:

  • Many spills and “accidents” penetrate very deeply into your carpet, carpet pad and floor. The trick to complete odor removal is to make sure that your odor remover penetrates deep enough to reach the source of the odor. Most spray bottles are not up to the task as they just don’t get past the surface of the carpet.
  • Remove as much of the odor causing material as possible using clean white towels or cloths.
  • Test for color fastness in an inconspicuous area.
  • If your carpet deodorizer passed the color fastness test, then treat the area following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Most enzyme cleaners work as they dry so don’t expect complete odor elimination until the carpet and the carpet pad are completely dry.
  • Avoid walking on the treated area for at least one full week. The pad underneath the carpet may be damp and walking on it will cause moisture to wick to the surface and will attract dirt from shoes.
  • If treating urine odors from pets, try to keep pets away from the treated area until the treated area is completely dry.

FEBREZE®: Febreze® is a fabric refresher that works best on airborne odor sources. Use it for cooking, smoky, musty smells in your carpet. Fabric refreshers are not cleaners so don’t use Febreze® on wet odors like urine from pet “accidents”. Available at most supermarkets, Wal-Mart® & Target®.

KIDS N PETS® STAIN & ODOR REMOVER: KIDS N PETS® is an enzyme cleaner that works best on any biodegradable odors such as urine, vomit, feces, milk and baby spit up. Available at most grocers, Target® & Wal-Mart®.


ODOBAN®: Odoban® is a disinfectant that works well on mold & mildew odors. Be very careful when using ODOBAN® as it is both hazardous and toxic. Do not use it around children or pets. Available at hardware stores and Sam’s Club®.
